Do ALL children Have Guardian Angels? Let's prove that the answer is YES.
I am inviting all of you living in North America to participate in “Guardian Angels,” an international art event unlike any other In history.
It will only work because of the role you will play.
In early May, 2010 I would like to mail you an actual oil painting depicting the face of a real child who has been reported as missing from your state or region.
During the week of National Missing Children’s Day (May 25, 2010) it will be your role to take this special painting with you, out into your community. You could bring it to work, present it at school, to friends, to the park, to day trips. In fact, the fun part is how you may creatively cause the child in the painting to be honored, and get their information to be noticed. As part of an international nation-wide art event highlighting the safety of children, you will become a sort of ambassador. Symbolically, you will become the “guardian angel” of this child. Through your photos or video, you will document how the people and environment of your community interact with the painting.
But there is more. I will show you how to contact your local media, to draw attention to the child’s case, as well as how to highlight your self as a key participant in this newsworthy event.
You will not only be representing the individual child featured in the painting. You will be an inspiration for the people of your community, reminding them of the power that they hold. Your final responsibility as a guardian angel will be to return the painting safely back to me by mail and to share the documentation of your experience online.
I will pay for shipping of the painting, both ways, so there is NO cost to you.
If you would like to participate in this remarkable event, please note me on my dA site. johnpaulthornton.deviantart.co…
I am in the process of accepting participants now.
Thank you.
John Paul Thornton,
Coordinator.

Why Paint Missing Children?
A little girl I knew was abducted.
I was very affected emotionally, and when I looked around my home town in the following days, I finally noticed all of the little fliers asking for help finding missing children. ( In America there are 1,500 missing child cases open every day. The fliers are often printed on the backs of coupons and are distributed as junk-mail.)
I just began saving the fliers, and after a year had a drawer full of them: Disposable mailers with tiny monochrome photos of missing children. It didn't seem right that these faces were so small and bland.
One night, out of nowhere, I was inspired to paint a full color portrait
Three Questions:
Question 1: "What was the Artist trying to say?"
Question 2: "Was the Artist successful in saying it?"
Question 3: "Was it worth it?"
The Third Question is the one which burns.
Can Art Help Us Heal?
Because art is an act of creation, and because art is capable of expressing and communicating, I feel that art can help us heal. What do you feel about this ?
Practicing for the risks of life...
When I paint, I am practicing taking risks. I am not trying to create balance in the world, or capture beauty. I am practicing to take risks. I am preparing my viewers to do the same.
