Artist's Comments

This portrait of a missing child is particularly memorable for me. Like the others, this was painted from a blurry photo on a "Have you seen me?" mailer.

love this one

Great textures. A difficult subject to tackle too, you have captured a great sense of meloncholy in each portrait. A painting of the child from a photo before they went missing, with the knowledge that they are missing at this moment in time.

A complex, disturbing and beautiful image.

Thanks for the insights and positive comments.

This image is particularly striking to me. I mean, this was the best photo with the "best" expression that the family had on hand.

Some of these portraits of missing children were easier the approach than others for me...

This one was tragic right from the beginning. It did not seem to resolve any differently as an artwork.

This is my absolute favorite... I love the expression... I love the hair style. I love the colors...
And all that I love makes it that much more sad and intense...

Wow. This one's stunning. The underlying red colour really shows the horror of it whilst the pale whites make him look almost ghost like. It's heartbreaking.

He's so cute. =[ I feel so bad for his family.
You did a great job capturing the expression and mood. The colour choice is nice too.

Never treat life too seriously.
No one gets out alive anyway.

I have had shows where I display the actual cards and fliers alongside the paintings. It is interesting (but puts more focus on the individual crime, somehow.) This way, they appeal to a universal concern. Simply numbered, they become OUR children.
