Portrait of a "recovered" child.

This is my painting of Jaycee Lee Dugard.

I painted this in 1991, days after she was reported as missing.

CBS Television recently ran a feature about this painting. To see the video, click here: [link]

Jaycee was abducted by strangers in 1991, and this week in 2009, eighteen years later, she was safely recovered. Her whole incredible story may be read, simply by doing a google-search of her name.

She was one of the first portraits I attempted of missing children, in a body of work that now numbers into the hundreds.

Thank you to all of my friends here who have taken the time to support this project.

And to Jaycee and her family, know that this portrait was exhibited on the National Mall, at the White House and the Lincoln memorial in Washington DC, where it was held by thousands of volunteers, as a way to help people connect with you. We never lost hope for Jaycee's return.

I remembered seeing you featured on dA a year or so ago, and I was curious to see if you had a portrait of Jaycee Dugard, and as soon as I found it my heart skipped a beat...

After hearing about her in a news report a few months ago I was totally shocked and appalled to hear how she was treated :disbelief: It haunted me and I had nightmares about it a couple of times :fear:

But nevertheless, a beautiful painting

I know that my comment is delayed... however, it really is mere coincidence: I spent the majority of last night reading Jaycee's story on a spontaneous whim. I'd seen her face all over magazines and always intended to learn more, and finally resigned myself to do so last night.

Today, I stumbled upon your gallery, and whose face is staring out at me? Jaycee Lee Dugard.

It's a rather overwhelming sensation.

As one of the previous commenters stated, your gifts and paintings are a blessing to all of us, especially the children and families whose lives have been touched directly by them. You have dedicated your art to a worthy cause. I congratulate you on your successes, skill, and selflessness; thank you for giving your art to those who need it, and to the world.

Best wishes,
Zillah

I read about her story in your news article. It amazed me that I had seen that magazine (the one with her face and everything) and never realized what that all was about. you do beautiful work and the most beautiful thing about it is that you are spreading the awareness of missing children. You are a truly talented artist.

I love how your paintings are very simple and express what you need to without having to go overboard on colour. Yet the small bursts of saturation really gives it the feel of a child which really brings heart into the art. It sort of feels like if a child put their own soul in the artwork.

Good job ^^

What an absolutely stunning display of color. I'm not a painter myself, but I understand all the subtle colors and tones that can go into something perceived to the untrained eye as "one color". Even so, it takes skill, dedication, and time to learn to use it correctly, and it's been a long time since I have seen that.

I think it's amazing that after all this time, the girl finally came back home. What you said about this picture being touched and held is beautiful. It makes a person feel good to know that so many people out there do care. It makes the world feel a little less lonely.

Very inspiring and very well done.
