Portrait of a missing girl. Oil on Canvas. painted from the blurred image on a "Have you seen me?" mailer.

I became very emotionally connected to this one.

The image was so flat and doll-like in the missing child mailer that I used as a reference... (All of my missing child portraits are painted from 1-inch square black and white photos).

It was challenging not to just add shading, planes or features. I vowed to be true to the photo, which broke my heart in a way.

She seemed so delicate, like she might just blow away...
But also so stoic.

I used so many layers in te face, but still, there is so little there in this finished face.

One child is groomed to assume the Spanish throne in 1630, another disappears on the way home from school, 380 years later in a distant land across the sea called "America".

They share the same fair skin and delicate expression.
