Missing Child Portrait 17 by johnpaulthornton Missing Child Portrait 17 by johnpaulthornton
What is the "proper" way too paint a missing child? This was inspired by a one inch square black and white image on the back of a "Have you seen me?" mailer.

Oil on canvas.

The work that you do moves me to tears. Your paintings call attention to a topic most people don't think about, whether it's on purpose or because there isn't enough coverage (in my opinion, there isn't enough and simple things are overlooked which keep these children from home...).

As someone who has had to fight her way away from strangers, I know how terrifying it is to think that you'll lose everything and then still worse. And I know the importance of educating people about missing persons cases. I really appreciate every painting you've done. It gives hope that all these children may one day come home safe and sound. Keep up the great work! :)

Just looking through your gallery made me cry.

It's not fair. No one deserves having to go through this.

Your paintings are amazing.

The eyes are so alive. And it makes you wonder why someone would want to separate this child from his family or why would someone want to hurt him.

I think that this is one of your best.I looked through all of you gallary and its...sad...how some of these kids go missing, then newpapers show one small picture and say nothing about it.
It's hard to say much about it,I'm still young and it's still hard for me to understand stuff...but your pictures help.
It's great to know someone cares about these kids.

Your painting make me cry. I look at the posters that are only placed into the bathrooms and entrances to Walmart and the 20 some kids looking back at me an I always wonder what would happen if those were my kids! You do some beautiful work!

Thank you Anne.

This was painted from a 1-inch square black and white photo...

This boy deserved more.

I go by eye color, hair color and age when I paint these. I allow them to then take on a feel and look of their own.

I am glad you spent time to view the portrait.

John Paul.

PS, I am still so amazed by the beautiful landscape you two live in ! How inspiring!

Missing child 17 was painted from a black and white printed image about the size of a postage stamp. The painting is 18 x 24 inches.

Thanks so much for your comment about the light...

That boys face looks like he is going to run into his family's arms in the next minute. ''Mama, Papa, I've never been away!''

In America, I learned that this little boy's image was mailed on the back of a carpet-cleaning ad to twenty million homes. His image was probably discarded twenty million times.
